On Campus News

New year, new look
Welcome to the new and improved On Campus! We hope you enjoy the new style and format of MHC's internal communications and will continue to look to On Campus as your source for college news and events. Please be sure to scroll through the entire blog, as news information will be listed first followed by events.

 Have you met...[???]
You’ve told us you want to learn more about your co-workers so we invite you to nominate someone for our new “Have You Met?” feature. Simply email Rose Paulgaard with the name of a co-worker you want to know more about and she will distribute the "Have You Met?" profile questionnaire to employees who are willing to participate. "Have You Met?" will appear weekly in On Campus.



Study Skills Sessions
Just a notice to all faculty and staff to remind students that the Academic Resources Centre is running a 2 day Study Skills Session on Friday, January 22 from 4-8pm and Saturday, January 23 from 9-1pm in room B 369. The fee for the session is $20 and students should for the course at the registration desk in Student Services.



New Fitness Schedule
Is exercise on your list of New Year resolutions? If so, be sure to check out the Sport & Wellness fitness schedule for the winter semester. Free classes are offered to all MHC employees and students and include Yoga, Hip Hop, Cardio, Toning, Qi Gong and Boot Camp.


Weight Room Orientation
Wednesday, January 20th
Friday, January 22
12 p.m. both days

All MHC students and employees are welcome to attend a free weight room orientation session. No registration necessary, simply stop by the weight room at noon for more info.



Weight Room Closures
Please note the weight room will be closed on the following days/times for labs:

Monday, Jan. 18: 3:30 PM – 6 PM
Tuesday, Jan. 19: 11 AM – NOON
Thursday, Jan. 21: 11 AM – NOON
Thurs, Jan. 21: 8 AM - NOON



MHC joins NISOD
The National Institute for Staff & Organizational Development (NISOD) is dedicated to the professional development of faculty, administrators, and staff; and to the continued improvement of teaching and learning, with the ultimate goal of student success. As a NISOD member, we join over 700 members from institutions across North America who are committed to serving, engaging, and inspiring their teachers and leaders.

New information is available on a weekly basis through our MHC membership at http://www.nisod.org/. Click the Members Only link and login with username: member/password: nisod365. Watch for regular innovation abstracts, updates on conferences and new webinars on the NISOD site to add value to your professional endeavors.


MHC Winter Games Update
Following last Thursday's intense bobsled competition, the team standings are as follows:

1. MHC Staff, 42 pts
2. Divisions of Science & Trades, 34 pts
3. Division of Arts, 23 pts
4. Division of Health Studies, 18 pts
5. Division of Business, 16 pts
6. Division of Adult Development, 5 pts

One final event, ball hockey, will be held in February so be sure to encourage your divisions to get involved as athletes or show their support by cheering on their team.



More Computers For Sale
Tell your friends! Towers only, no peripherals or monitors. The units have: Celeron 3Ghz clock speed, 80G HD, 512Mg RAM, video card. No software is included. Email inquiries only to Rodger Sloan to set up a time to purchase or view.



Safety Notice
Custodial has noticed broken glass, nails, and other sharps in the garbage. For their protection, please leave all sharp materials in a box beside your garbage can.


Sweetheart Submissions
The Faculty Association Newsletter, The Fax, will be running a “Sweetheart” feature in the February edition. Please submit your wedding photos to facultyassoc@mhc.ab.ca or to varchibald@mhc.ab.ca for publication. Every entry receives a prize and will be entered for our grand prize of a $50 dinner for two. So please get out your photos, dust them off and send them in. Watch for the February newsletter the first week of February. Deadline for submissions is Friday, January 22, 2010.


It's Tune-Up Time
The Automotive Service Technician program is accepting vehicles for its January/February tune-up session. Please fill out the service request form and send it to the trades department care of Ray Shannon. This service is open to all MHC staff. Ray Shannon will follow up with interested parties with the service schedule details.
