The college's obligation is to ensure you have three consecutive hours for the purpose of voting. As polls are open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and our regular hours for work are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., all employees should have sufficient time to vote without any problem. However, should your work schedule not provide the three consecutive hours required by law, please contact Human Resources for accommodation.

Attention Atomic Learning Users
MHC is planning on cancelling the subscription to this service at the end of June. The use of the service has declined the past couple of years. With the ready availability of free tutorials online we are considering if the annual $4000 cost to subscribe to this service is warranted. Before a final decision is made, Chuck Payne would like to hear from anyone whose course or program requires the use of the Atomic Learning resources.
Please respond to Chuck Payne by Friday, May 4 if a decision to cancel Atomic Learning will significantly affect your work with students.
Faculty PD Days Return
College faculty will encounter a wide array of professional development and input opportunities at PD Days 2012 presented jointly by the Faculty Association Professional Development Committee and the Office of the Vice-President Academic.
The event spans three days including serious and recreational learning opportunities. Friday April 27 offers a session on college benefits and the pension plan, as well as one on wine tasting. (Seems an ideal mix for those with retirement dreams that include warm Okanagan vineyards.)
More serious sessions commence on Monday April 30 including Innovation and Scholarship, General Education, and a full-day focus on Multiculturalism. Internationalization and research themes continue Tuesday with a debrief session on the Cultural Acculturation Program (CAP) piloted this year, and reports from the college’s first Faculty in Residence participants.
Strong opportunities to provide input are also offered Tuesday with an interactive session on academic planning and organization. A working lunch considering a Centre for Teaching and Learning, and afternoon session on Professional Development complete the day.

Board approves Vis Com project
The Visual Communications program is one step closer to long-sought new facilities after the Board of Governors approved a $7.33 million renovation and construction project at the board’s open meeting on Tuesday April 17.
The project is complex, involving construction of new space on both ends of the Cultural Centre as well as extensive renovation of existing space in that building. The City and college have also agreed to reallocation of some space within the Cultural Centre to facilitate the project.

We're Upgrading to Blackboard 9!
This spring, an important new upgrade is in store for us at MHC. We will be moving from Blackboard version 8 to Blackboard version 9. There are significant changes in the upgrade, but we've got help for you!
On Tuesday, April 24, all instructors will receive an email with instructions and a link to the new Blackboard 9 system, along with their login and password for Blackboard 9.

Residence Incident Update
The college continues to monitor the status of former student Dustin Satterthwaite, the individual taken into custody following the incidence of violence at the Golfview residences in February. His next court appearance is this Thursday afternoon, April 26. Bail has thus far been denied. Information from the hearing will be shared as appropriate.
Student Opportunity
The Medicine Hat Regional Human Resources Association is seeking two students to join their board for a one-year term. The post of Secretary and Bookkeeper are available, and both positions would require between 6-8 hours of commitment per month. As these are voluntary positions, no remuneration is given. However, the student will receive a complimentary 2012 MHRHRA membership and the opportunity to meet and network with many business partners throughout the year. Applicants must have experience with MS Office and be able to work as a team member. Interested parties are requested to email a resume and cover letter to: contact@mhrhra.ca.

If you are a full-time faculty member, full-time regular support staff, or full-time administrator, you may be eligible for a partial tuition waiver when placing your children in these programs. Vehicle Repairs on Campus
Who better to trust your vehicle repairs to than Ray Shannon and the team of faculty and students in the automotive service program? Starting in May and continuing to mid June, the program is doing brake, steering, and driveline work. Just fill out this document and send it to Ray through internal mail. The service is open to all college staff members and their families.
