Important Changes to Registration

Registration is changing for all new and returning students, says Karoline Fox, manager of registration.

“The biggest difference students will find is the ability to register for a full year of courses in advance,” says Fox. “Student Services hopes this change will help students plan in advance reducing anxiety about course availability and even when they make job or family commitments.”

Fox explains that students will encounter registration processes specific to their goals and program choice. “Students in a few programs -- Health Care Aid is a good example – will be automatically registered as there are no options or course choices to be made.” She notes, however, that students in other programs have wide scope when they build a schedule and choose classes.

Several communications steps are happening to help students understand their individual registration needs.

• New students will receive an email that explains exactly what they need to do
• Current students will also receive an email specific to their program needs
• All students will find the information explained on the college web site
• Information sessions have been planned to help students

Because the use of student email is less than 100 percent, promotional efforts will soon be underway to encourage students to check for messages.

Please review the information on our website for more information on the processes involved.

Rig Donation Supports Rig Technician Program

The college’s newest apprenticeship program is growing strong with the donation of a drilling rig that will provide hands-on training possibilities. The rig will be located on the Kipling Street Campus to serve the needs of the rig program and others.

While the college has received City development permits, we’re taking extra steps to inform you and the community before the rig appears. In the coming week households along the coulee edge will receive a flyer explaining the project and showing the small impact of the equipment (a copy of the flyer is accessible here.) Watch for full details on this development in the near future.

An Evening with Spencer West

Spend an inspirational evening with  motivational speaker Spencer West, Wednesday, March 28 at 7 p.m. at the College Theatre.

Spencer has an amazing story. At the age of five, a genetic disorder claimed both his legs. Navigating through life on his hands, Spencer has always lived with purpose and lives every day following his personal motto “If you work hard, never give up and laugh a lot, you can achieve anything”! His positive attitude and passion are contagious.

In June he and two friends are climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise money for East Africa drought relief. Spencer has shared the stage with Mikhail Gorbachev, the Dalai Lama, Al Gore, Sir Richard Branson, as well as entertainers like Hedley, and Nelly Furtado (who donated $1 million this year to the organization Spencer works with), and recently appeared on the George Stroumboulopoulos show.

The event is all ages and Spencer’s message/attitude is great to share with your children, friends, and family. Tickets are $13 and can be purchased either at the Students Association office or at Hat High.
