The Rattlers were second in the province and #7 in Canada, with an 18-2 record. Although they lost championship game to Mount Royal University, the women's team will compete at nationals March 10 to 12 at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo, BC.

Celebrate Black History Month with Storytelling Circles
The Human Rights Public Awareness Committee of the college has previously celebrated Black History Month by show casing the stories of African Canadians from Canada and Alberta’s past. This year, we would like to update our history by involving the stories of current students and staff who have chosen to make Medicine Hat their home.
The committee has planned two storytelling circles featuring several speakers who have agreed to share their stories with us. Join us to learn about the heritage of persons at the college who self identify as black. This informal session will give attendees the opportunity to hear personal stories and engage in conversation with the participants.
A display of photography and stories showcasing Black HiStory Month will be also be present on exhibit beginning February 27 by the Starbucks cafe area.

Green Building Design in Medicine Hat
The Medicine Hat College CADD students would like to invite students, faculty, staff and administration to our building sustainability presentation at Medicine Hat College on March 2 at 1 - 2 p.m. in the Crowfoot room. This year the college has offered a new, exciting course called CADD 291 – Technical Illustration III Sustainability, which explores green building. The class wants to bring awareness to the college, the city, and surrounding community about the benefits of being sustainable with new construction projects.
The presentation topic is perfectly timed to changes on campus, city-announced leisure centre upgrades, and movement on the events centre. As young members of the community the class believes they can contribute a new perspective on healthy buildings that can potentially save valuable resources for years to come. They are convinced that major projects on campus and in the city need to discuss and implement sustainability practices. This discussion starts with their presentation, and your attendance as a show of support.

Benj Heinrichs Named ACAC Women's Volleyball Coach of the Year
Benj Heinrichs took over the MHC Rattlers Women’s Volleyball team nine years ago, after coaching the men’s program for four seasons. Benj’s passion for learning, sharing, and teaching creates an environment that enables success in all facets of life. While this year’s Rattlers have been very successful on the court posting an 18-2 record, they have also maintained a team GPA above 3.3.
Benj’s teams focus on succeeding by learning four core values: family, discipline, respect, and awareness. He employs the Positive Coaching Alliance philosophy and believes that teaching values in a positive atmosphere creates the greatest potential for success. The Rattlers have always had a strong core of local players and Benj understands that developing volleyball within the Medicine Hat community is one of the keys to success at a rural college.
Social Work Practicum Fundraisers
Nine students from the social work program are going to Africa in May for two months as part of an international social work practicum. Over the next three weeks they will be collecting Canadian Tire Money. Donations can be made at Starbucks, the bookstore, the library and the division of Health Studies front office.
They will also host a bottle drive on March 3. The Shamrock bottle truck will be in the parking lot by the front entrance of the college from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. People can drop their bottles off or pick up can be arranged by calling 403-502-7043 during those hours. (Prior to that they can be dropped off at the division of Health Studies.)
On Saturday, March 31 we have an evening of fun, food, music, silent auction at the Crave from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Admission is $25 or $10 for students.

Electronics Recycling
Yes, it's that time of year again; the Saamis Rotary Club will be conducting its annual electronics recycling in May. The college will accept any old electronics or small appliances.(No major appliances or console TVs). Items can be dropped off at the loading bay near facility operations during regular business hours from now until mid-May.
Accessibility Audit
The EHS office along with the Canadian Paraplegic Association of Alberta recently conducted an audit of all campus facilities to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our physically challenged users. The Auditor was impressed by the efforts of the college and found very few issues. If you are interested in the findings of the audit or have concerns in this area please contact Rodger.
Sunshine Home & Garden Show Volunteers Needed
The Medicine Hat & District Chamber of Commerce is seeking numerous volunteers for the Sunshine Home & Garden Show, which takes place on March 2, 3, and 4th. They are looking for individuals to help out in the following areas: Children’s Section, Parking Attendants, Greeters, Cashiers, and Ticket Sales.
