Just a reminder, the Staff Training & Development Fund is an available source of funding for professional development and continuing education pursuits.
Employees can apply for up to $3,000.00 for an individual professional development activity or up to $6,000.00 for a group activity. If pursuing a certificate, diploma or degree, employees can apply for up to $5,000.00 for the specific credential.

New version of Microsoft Office for MHC Employees
The new version of Microsoft Office is now available for MHC employees. Please note, the program was previously known as the Work At Home (WAH) and is now called the Home Use Program (HUP).
To access your copy of this program:
- Send an email to CallCentre@mhc.ab.ca requesting the access code.
- I.T. Services will respond with the website address to go to and the program code needed to order.
- The member would put in their college email address and the program code and then add the Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus, or the Office 2008 for MAC or both to their cart.
- The cost is free for a download version, or approximately $11 for a backup DVD order of the software.
- The process is directly between the requestor and Microsoft, so I.T. Services is not involved in the process directly other than supplying the program code.
Call for Proposals
The Office of the VP Academic and the Office of Strategic Research and Analysis are announcing an initiative to stimulate research activity at the College. A $3000 internal grant will be awarded to an employee or group of employees who propose a project in any field with a well-developed plan of investigation and methodology. Application forms and guidelines for proposals (including a tip sheet for new researchers) are available on the SharePoint server. Deadline for submissions: November 10, 2010.
NISOD Innovation Abstracts
In "Bridging the Gap Between Student Services and Faculty," Brian Dudak, English Instructor, at Phillips Community College (MS), describes some strategies by which faculty and student services personnel can work together, helping students embrace their challenges, play by the rules, and find common ground for success.

Safety Flash for October
It's flu season again!
College Hours of Operation
The daily hours of the College are 7 AM to 11 PM Monday to Saturday, and 9 AM to 9 PM on Sundays.
Outside of these hours entrance to the College is available through the Main entrance by contacting security.
Please note, that outside of these hours Security must know who is in the building in case of emergency. New signage is now up at all entrances to the College.
