Orientation & Registration Numbers
Despite a soggy end to the day, New Student Orientation was a big success with over 1,000 students getting a right start to college last Wednesday. Overall, 2,906 students are registered at Medicine Hat College for Fall 2010, which is an increase of 3.3% over last year’s registration counts. Please note that students have until September 13 to add/drop classes and these numbers will change.
MHC a draw for Korean Students
On August 27, the International Education Department said goodbye to 12 Korean students who attended MHC over the summer months to study English. All of the students were visiting from the prestigious Dankook University, Korea's first 4-year institution to be established after the county gained independence in 1947.
For student Joori Ma, the after-school activities that Medicine Hat College offers as part of their international program were a big draw. Baseball games, movie nights and day trips to Echodale were memorable excursions for this Chinese major.
"MHC lived up to my expectations," said Ma whose highlight was a trip to Calgary and Heritage Park. "I would like to stay longer and hope to come back one day."
Donghyun Kim, an electronic engineering student from Dankook, knew he wanted to come to Canada for his study abroad opportunity and liked the look of Medicine Hat. In addition to gaining a better understanding of the language, Donghyun also took the opportunity to travel through Alberta and the United States with road trips to Banff and Seattle. He also experienced a rodeo for the first time which he described as "funny."
Another 12 students from Korea's Hankook University arrived at MHC last week for general studies this fall.

Campus Parking
Parking enforcement will begin Monday Sept 13th. Please be aware that the fine for improper parking is $50 and $100 for parking in handicapped areas. These fines are payable to the city and any challenges must be brought to the College Security office (F128) within two business days.
Weight Room Closure / Locker Registration
Please note the weight room will be closed for PEAC 210 Strength Training classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8 a.m. - 8: 50 a.m.
The lockers located downstairs in the G Wing are now open for weight room and recreational users. Once you have put your lock on a locker, please register the number with weight room staff. Towel service is also available for $10/semester or $20/year through the weight room.
Free Fitness Classes
Fitness classes will be starting the week of September 20th and are free for all employees and students. Take advantage of the variety of classes offered, including yoga, Pilates, hip hop and boot camp. View Fall Schedule (pdf).

Recycling
MHC is doing what it can to reduce our solid waste output. We currently recycle wood, metal, paper and beverage containers. Please aid our custodians in ensuring that these containers do not become contaminated with garbage. We are exploring ways of expanding our ability to recycle other materials but need your help! Please contact Rodger with your ideas.
