Medicine Hat College Vice-President wins
ACCC Leadership Excellence Award
Dr. Terry Cooper, Vice-President Academic, Medicine Hat College was awarded the Leadership Excellence Award at the ACCC National Conference on Sunday evening.
The Association of Canadian Community Colleges presents this prestigious award to an individual who showcases extraordinary contribution to their college/institute community and highlights the role of post-secondary institutions in social, cultural and economic development.
Dr. Cooper, a respected, dynamic leader who lives and breathes Medicine Hat College was recognized for his 38 year commitment and leadership to MHC. Starting as an instructor in 1972, Dr. Cooper also held the position of Department Chairman for Science and Technology before becoming academic vice-president in 1995. Dr. Cooper will officially retire from his position of academic vice president at Medicine Hat College on June 30, 2010.
His dedication to excellence in academic programs and his guidance has ensured quality education in an ever changing environment is delivered at MHC. “He is a great role model and ambassador for Medicine Hat College – in fact we are sure that he bleeds MHC black and gold,” said Ralph Weeks, president of Medicine Hat College. “Dr. Cooper’s good nature sets an example for all of us to enjoy our work while striving for excellence. The whole college congratulates Dr. Cooper on receiving this very special honor.”
Volunteer Chickens Needed
If anyone has two live chickens that would be willing to "volunteer" their time at the Stampede Breakfast Chicken Bingo, please contact Laura Carlson at lcarlson@mhc.ab.ca. Chickens will be returned after the event and feed will be provided as compensation.

WHMIS Training Session
If you are using chemicals in the workplace you will require training in the use of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System. The next session is tentatively being scheduled for June 16 at 1 p.m. in the college's chemistry lab. Please contact Randee Cheverie to confirm your attendance. Training is free, please bring along your MSDS sheets.
Need First Aid Training?
Has it been more than three years since your last course? Are you working with students in remote locations, students with disabilities, or volunteering as an Emergency Warden? Please contact Rodger if you are interested in taking a First Aid course in June.
Certificate of Recognition (COR) Audit
MHC will have its Health and Safety program audited over the next couple of months. Staff will be asked to complete a questionnaire and perhaps participate in an interview with the external auditor. A positive outcome for the college will result in both financial and reputational benefits so please cooperate fully. Health and safety is everyone's responsibility.
