Guest Speaker: April 29
All faculty and staff are invited to attend Professional Development Days 2010 sponsored by the Faculty Association P.D. Committee. Sid Marty will be our guest speaker on Thursday, April 29th at 1:00 in B369. Marty is a renowned lecturer whose theme will be environmentally focused as well as humorous. His many experiences in the Alberta wilderness with humans and dangerous animals have provided him a wide range of true and captivating stories to share. Seating is limited; please RSVP to Monika at 504-3616.
Round Table Sessions: April 30
Everyone is invited to attend the Friday, April 30th round table sessions as part of our Faculty Association P.D. Days to be held in the Craft Photo Studio at the Cultural Centre from 9:00 to 12:00.
Each session will be approximately 45 minutes in length. No registration is required. The following topics will be featured:

- Personal Wellness with Ed Stiles
- Diversity Awareness and Disability Services with Julie DeBoer
- Rubrics with Janice Kirchner
- Educational Technology Services with Keith MacMillan and the ETS staff

Massage Therapy Clinic
The massage therapy clinic is back and providing treatments for faculty and staff for $15 until the end of June. To book an appointment call ext. 3679.
Call for Volunteers
The Southeast Alberta Regional Skills Canada Competition is coming up on Thursday, April 29 and volunteers are needed to help with registration from 7:00 - 7:45 a.m. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Sue Feeney at seaskills@thehat.ca.
Parking Lot Closure
Please note that the parking lot south of the B Wing will be closed on Thursday, April 29 due to a trades awareness event taking place in conjunction with the Skills Canada Competition. Thank you for your cooperation.
It's Not Easy Being Green: MHC Environment Week Challenge
How 'green' is your department? MHC's Environmental Stewardship Committee wants to find out which department is the friendliest to our environment. For the week of May 17, employees will be asked to keep track of their participation in a set of 'green' tasks. The department with the highest number of green points will win lunch for their department as well as a bragging rights and a special 'green' trophy that they may keep for one year. More details will be provided to the department admin assistants. It's not easy being green but it will be easy to find ways to help our workplace be environmentally friendly.
In addition to the departmental challenges, a number of 'green' companies will be displaying their wares at the college throughout the week. The City Volksmarch club will also host a walking tour of the campus on Tuesday, May 18 at noon. Come see the route of the proposed Campus Trail and learn some surprising things about the college campus.

Need First Aid training?
Has it been more than three years since your last course? Are you working with students in remote locations, students with disabilities, or volunteering as an Emergency Warden? Please contact Rodger if you are interested in taking a First Aid course in May or June.
Electronic Waste Drop-Off
Do some spring cleaning and drop off your old electronics outside the Faculty Association office until May 15.
Certificate of Recognition (COR) Audit
May 1 - June 30
MHC will have its Health and Safety program audited over the next couple of months. Staff will be asked to complete a questionnaire and perhaps participate in an interview with the external auditor. A positive outcome for the college will result in both financial and reputational benefits so please cooperate fully. Health and safety is everyone's responsibility.
Workplace Violence/ Working Alone
New policies regarding workplace violence and working alone have recently been approved and the EHS Office will offer training sessions to all employees on this information. Please see your admin assistant to see when your group is scheduled.
Fire/Emergency Warden Training Sessions
This training session is mandatory for all wardens and will cover operation of the new radio system.
Sessions are:
May 10, 1:00 - 2:30
May 11, 10:30 -12:00
May 12, 10:30-12:00

Innovation Abstract
In "The Nursing Troupe: Healthcare Learning from Theater," faculty members Gina Sirach, Nursing, and Allan Kimball, Theatre, at Southeastern Illinois College (IL), describe a successful creative, fun activity in which nursing and theatre students collaborate to increase knowledge about their respective content areas and faculty collaborate to use resources more effectively.

Wanted: Technology-Enthused Educators
The Geekapalooza Planning Committee is looking for technology enthused educators to present during our 3rd annual event on August 19th, 2010, the day after College Day. This annual professional development event brings together educators and technology by sharing ideas and discussing new trends & techniques.

Automotive Service On Campus
The next automotive tune-up session will start in May and will focus on brakes, steering and suspension, and driveline work. Please print and fill out the service form and send it to the trades department, attention Ray Shannon.
