New paintings by Laara Cassells tackle the isolation and absorption of the generation dubbed ‘the intentionally disengaged’. Cassells juxtaposes images of youth and contemporary popular culture with a more historical portrait painting tradition, the equestrian portrait, celebrating both the disjuncture and the resonance between subjects and medium. e·strange runs from February 27 – April 11, 2010 at the Esplanade.

Hosted by SEAWA and sponsored by Cenovus Energy, the City of Medicine Hat and the Provincial Government, this conference will highlight the most relevant and current scientific and policy groundwater issues in Alberta and Saskatchewan. With speakers from university, government, research, industry, agriculture, consulting and NGO sectors, participants will gain an in depth understanding of the increasing importance of groundwater.

Dashiell Hammett brought the true story of two school teachers wrongly condemned for lesbianism by the lie of a spiteful student to Hellman’s notice. Her play has earned its place as one of the enduring works of the American Theatre. While it was shunned by the Pulitzer Prize selection committee for drama, the outrage at the play’s exclusion for that award sparked the creation of the Drama Critics Circle award to honour her achievement. This play is not recommended for children.
