Medicine Hat College students and local residents alike can look forward to the college’s annual Shake, Rattler n’ Roll Homecoming celebration, slated for September 15.
The event will feature three musical artists and a day of exciting activities, including the Rattlers Hall of Fame breakfast, Rattlers soccer action and free ATB Family Fun Zone. Local favourites The Straight Jackets will kick off the free musical entertainment in the evening, followed by up-and-comer Shawn Hook. His single “Every Red Light” spent 10 weeks on the Canadian top 100 chart this winter, and he has recently released his debut album, “Cosmonaut and the Girl.” This year’s headliner is Faber Drive (“You and I Tonight”). The Juno-nominated group is known for their pop-rock style and will be releasing their third album this summer.
“We’ve chosen some well-loved bands that ‘Hatters, students and alumni will enjoy seeing live,” said Jennifer Thompson, MHC’s media officer. “Their music and style will appeal to all ages. We hope to see lots of people come to campus to take advantage of the free activities and see what MHC has to offer the community.”
The soccer games, concert and ATB Family Fun Zone are free of charge and everyone in the community is welcome to attend. The concert is a licensed event with food and beverage service provided by Earls and Local.
The day begins with the Rattlers Hall of Fame breakfast, where new members will be inducted and alumni will be reunited. The Rattlers Hall of Fame breakfast is the only ticketed portion of the weekend; for information on tickets please call 403.529.3834. Rattlers soccer kicks off at noon, with home opener games for both the men’s and women’s teams vs. Lethbridge.
MHC is proud to once again offer the ATB Family Fun Zone in the afternoon. Families are invited to join in the fun with a variety of activities for kids of all ages on Saturday afternoon. Bouncy houses, slides, face painters and the like will keep the whole community having fun. The Be Fit for Life Centre will also be on hand presenting their “Minute To Win It” style games.

Library Wins 2012 Environmental Challenge
Congratulations to the library staff for winning the 2012 Environmental Challenge for the second year in a row with an average of 63 km walked per person. Honourable mention goes to College Advancement with an average of 58km walked per person. Overall, 3200 km were walked during the month of May by participants from 14 different college departments. That's like walking to Toronto!
The library will be treated to lunch and will have a tree planted on the college trail to commemorate their environmental efforts. They also have the privilege of taking care of the college's environmental mascot - Kermit.
In addition to walking, many staff members took on other environmental challenges including shortening shower times and composting food waste. There was a tie for first place between Cathy Linowski (Science), Scott Stickel (Trades) and Glenda Staples (Residence). All three win a $20 gift card from the Windmill Garden Centre.

Application Update
Fall applications to Medicine Hat College are up by 3% over those of the preceding year. The college has received 2,076 applications for the upcoming semester with the most significant increases being seen in the Applied Health Sciences (Paramedic), Nursing, UT Arts, Police & Security, and Power Engineering

Closed Weekends
Audio Visual hours are 8:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. and will be in effect until August 24.
Bookstore Summer Hours (July-August)
Monday - Friday 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Closed Weekends
Regular fall hours resume after College Day (August 22) Please note, The Bookstore will be closed on College Day, August 22.
