President's Message Regarding Convocation
Our annual convocation celebration is a time to recognize the achievements of our students as well as connect with the community. This year’s convocation ceremonies will take place on Friday, June 1 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. As this is a Friday, there may be some minor business interruptions for all employees of Medicine Hat College. As gracious hosts to our graduates and their guests, all MHC employees are encouraged to consider the following.
  • Though this is a Friday and jeans are typically permitted, please adhere to the traditional business casual dress code.
  • Please consider carpooling. Drivers are encouraged to park in the gravel lots, trades lot, Cultural Centre and the B-wing lot in order to accommodate guest parking for the day.
  • For faculty participating in the grand march who have pre-ordered gowns, gowns are available for pick-up in the Bookstore beginning Wednesday, May 30. On Convocation day, please arrive in the Courtyard one hour prior to the ceremony. Adult Development, Arts, and Business are recognized in the morning ceremony, and Health Studies, Science and Trades are recognized in the afternoon ceremony.
  • All employees are encouraged to be involved where possible. If you are able to attend the ceremonies, please do so. Remember to be a cordial host and allow the families of graduates to acquire the most desirable seating.
  • If you cannot attend the ceremonies, please consider joining your colleagues in applauding our 2012 graduates as they begin the Grand March. All staff members are encouraged to gather outside of the Bookstore at 9:55 a.m. for the morning ceremony and 1:55 p.m. for the afternoon ceremony.
  • Convocation will be streamed online this year. Due to bandwidth limitations, this website will not be available on campus on June 1. Please feel free to share this link with those who may wish to watch from off-campus
Thank you for your support of Convocation 2012.

Copyright Assistance

The library has recently hired a full time copyright officer to assist employees of the Medicine Hat College with matters relating to copyright. Copyright is an ever changing and nuanced aspect of Canadian law, complicated by technological developments and licensing agreements. If this sounds onerous, do not despair; there is help. If you have questions about the use of any media in class, including videos, sound recordings, e-texts, and yes, even print texts, please contact Clint Lawrence at ext. 3835 or by email at clawrence@mhc.ab.ca.

Seize the Summer
Not sure how to keep your kids busy over the summer months? Register them in the many exciting summer programs offered through Continuing Studies at MHC. Choose from a wide variety of arts, science and sports programs, or check out special theme programs like Cooking with Strawberry Shortcake or Superheroes Camp. Camps are also offered for children ages 3-5.

If you are a full-time faculty member, full-time regular support staff, or full-time administrator, you may be eligible for a partial tuition waiver for these programs. Click here for more information. Eligible employees must get their tuition waiver from HR before registering their children at the registration desk.

Make sure to know the course codes when you go to HR, it will make the process even easier. Calendars are now available in print on campus or at your child's school. You can also view programs and register online at www.mhc.ab.ca/.
