The college's obligation is to ensure you have three consecutive hours for the purpose of voting. As polls are open from 9 am to 8 pm, and our regular hours or work are from 8 am to 4:30 pm, all employees should have sufficient time to vote without any problem. However, should your work schedule not provide the three consecutive hours required by law, please contact Human Resources for accommodation.

Community Foundation Seeks Input
Vehicle Repairs on Campus
Who better to trust your vehicle repairs to than Ray Shannon and the team of faculty and students in the automotive service program? Starting in May and continuing to mid June, the program is doing brake, steering, and driveline work. Just fill out the document attached to the Campus Announcements email and send it to Ray through internal mail. The service is open to all college staff members and their families.
Residence Incident Update
The college continues to monitor the status of former student Dustin Satterthwaite, the individual taken into custody following the incidence of violence at the Golfview residences in February. While bail has been denied so far, Mr. Satterthwaitte is expected to appeal that ruling at Court of Queen's Bench on April 19. Information from the hearing will be shared as appropriate.
Student Opportunity
The Medicine Hat Regional Human Resources Association is seeking two students to join their Board for a one year term. The post of Secretary and Bookkeeper are available, and both positions would require between 6-8 hours of commitment per month. As these are voluntary positions, no remuneration is given. However, the student will receive a complimentary 2012 MHRHRA membership and the opportunity to meet and network with many business partners throughout the year. Applicants must have experience with MS Office and be able to work as a team member. Interested parties are requested to email a resume and cover letter to: contact@mhrhra.ca

Volunteer and Network with the Chamber of Commerce
The Medicine Hat and District Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 2012 Southern Alberta Petroleum Show from May 8-9, and they want you and your students to be involved! They are looking for volunteers from May 5-8 for assistance in trade show preparation, trade show assistance, golf tournament assistance, and awards banquet assistance. This is a great way for our students to network with members of the oil and gas community and/or learn on-the-job skills in event management. It's a great networking opportunity for our faculty and staff as well, and gives us a chance to support the Chamber.
Are you or your students interested? Contact the Chamber at 403.527.5214 ext. 221 or info@medicinehatchamber.com.

HR's News You Can Use:
Have you seen the newly redesigned timesheets yet? Our payroll department has made some changes with regards to the layout. Completing your timesheet will be very similar to before, just ordered a little differently.
Following payday, our payroll department will return the office copy (yellow) and the employee’s copy (pink) of the timesheet to the appropriate department. The employee’s copy is to then be distributed to each employee for their personal review.
Please take the time to review your returned timesheet for accuracy as well as any adjustments and messages from our payroll staff.

One College Initiative
If you had the power to bring one small change to Medicine Hat College that would help us better serve students, what would that be? Build a mental picture of the college in the future. How is it different? What does it feel like to work there?
Your answers to these questions are a welcome part of the college’s long-term development process, which is underway right now. Ken Steele’s visits to campus, and an audit of our systems and processes conducted last fall, are some of the steps we’re taking, together, to shape our college.
In the coming weeks, you’ll hear more about these processes. A critical opportunity is coming in late April as we seek groups of people—students, employees, employers, alumni and others—to further refine the basic concepts of our college.
Please join us at one of the following sessions:
April 23
8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in C225
12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in C225
April 24
10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in C225
Brooks Campus 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
All you need to bring are your impressions of the college today, and how we could be better in the future. The sessions will be conducted by a consultant and you’ll be with a small group of other employees.
After that, you’ll receive invitations to participate on teams that will address critical aspects of our core business. This includes concepts like the promises we make students, the key student audiences we serve, and how we serve students through an extended cycle. Some of these groups will begin work in the spring and summer, others next fall.
Our request is simple: bring inspiration, express your frustration if necessary, argue for the status quo or push for a vision. You are Medicine Hat College, and your participation is vital.
Interested candidates can respond to feedback@mymhc.ca.
Steps For Life Walk
Medicine Hat College is once again supporting the Steps for Life Walk, set to take place on Sunday, May 6. This 5 km walk will begin at 1 p.m. and participants will walk the beautiful grounds of the college and Kin Coulee Park. The Steps For Life Walk supports Threads of Life programs and services for families who have suffered from a workplace tragedy. The program also raises awareness about the importance of health and safety within the workplace.
The walk will be aimed at family fun, with safety activities for the whole family following the event. Organizers also encourage team entries, so get your department together and enter as a team.
Register here, or call/email Rodger Sloan at ext. 8439 for more information. Volunteers are also needed; if you are able to lend a hand, please contact Rodger.
