As a brief update to campus staff and faculty, we have been informed the accused in the residence incident has been transferred to Calgary for a 30-day psychiatric assessment. He is then brought before the court for a bail hearing, sometime near the middle of March where he will likely remain in custody until his trial.
If the accused is released on bail, the college will be notified immediately and patrols will increased at the college and particularly in the residence area.

Plenty of Support for Campus Events
Last week was a busy one on campus with Winter Walk Day on Wednesday, National Sweater Day Thursday, and Friday's Beach the BluesThis was the tenth-annual Beach the Blues event, with the first beach-themed "Tropical Day" event held in the library in 2001. A year later it became a campus-wide Beach the Blues event.
Jordan Zukowski (pictured to the right) was the big winner of the “Beach the Blues/Cheer on the Rattlers” event. Jordan won an 8Gb iPod, a digital camera and a iPod Docking system with speakers. Jordan participate during Beach the Blues on Friday and then came out to support the Rattlers that evening.

Did you know you can have your pay split into two separate bank accounts? You have the option of splitting your pay by a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your total pay.
If this interests you, please stop into the Human Resources department with your bank account information (void cheque, etc) to complete the required form. In order to make a change to your bank account(s) for this month’s pay, the updated information must be received in payroll by February 16.
Dorian Hesjedal Library User of the Month
“That is what the Vera Bracken Library is all about, an environment that has both form and function. With its high ceilings, extensive use of daylighting, and deliberate layout; the Vera Bracken Library is a very inviting setting. As a second-year CADD student, I occasionally like to take a break from my workstation and come down to the library for some rejuvenation. The soft seating area along the West wall, with its large windows, has become my sanctuary.
What really completes the experience are the people. A person can design the“best” building, but without people, you just have a shell. The staff here at the Vera Bracken Library makes this environment complete. As a future alumni, I look forward to seeing the Medicine Hat College continue to utilize sustainable building design in their future projects.”
One Book One Community
The One Book One Community committee is busy planning our next event for October 2012 and they need your help. Each year, the OBOC book to be read by all of Medicine Hat is selected from suggestions from the community.
During February 2012, we will be taking submissions via our online suggestion form, in person at the Vera Bracken Library, Medicine Hat Public Library, and Coles the Book People in the Medicine Hat Mall.
We require the book be Canadian, available in paperback format and substantial enough to generate discussion and debate. Fiction and non-fiction titles are welcome.

In “University Mentoring Program Responds to Novice Teacher SOS,” Darlene Turner-White, Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education, and Wanda W. Hutchinson, Associate Professor of Education, at Athens State University (AL), describe steps of a teacher warranty program aimed at helping reduce the numbers of new teachers who quickly exit the classroom and their profession for lack of support and help meeting the myriad of challenges that first-time teachers can experience.
