Presentation Skills Webinar Workshops

9 a.m. to noon, 1 to 4 p.m.
The Academic Foundations department at Bow Valley College would like to invite community college online practitioners and curriculum developers to participate in two upcoming webinar workshops hosted by the college and presented by RexiMedia.
The first workshop, Visual Thinking, will help participants visualize facts, processes, data, and abstract concepts to make their presentations more engaging. The second workshop, Virtual Presentation Skills, will offer strategies to maintain participant attention and participation when presenting via online meeting software.
Participants will be able to take part using their individual workstations. Participants should have a strong Internet connection and a headset (with a microphone if possible). Since the webinars will be delivered using Adobe Connect, participants should log in to the room 10 to 15 minutes before the sessions start to test audio and auto-install the Adobe Connect plug-in. More details will follow on confirmation of registration.
To register, fill out the online registration form. Register quickly as seats are limited. Confirmation emails will be sent to successful registration applicants. To recover some of the costs, Bow Valley College is asking for $100 per participant per workshop. An invoice for each workshop will be emailed to participants after the workshop has been completed.

One Book One Community Lunch

The seventh annual One Book One Community event will take place at Medicine Hat College this weekend. The 2011 book selection is Come, Thou Tortoise by Jessica Grant.
Tickets are now on sale for the OBOC luncheon. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available at the Vera Bracken Library for $15.

A day of facilitated book discussions and fun activities. Featuring MHC faculty Deborah Forbes and Stephanie Hancock and performances by Fut in the Hat. Jessica Grant will be in attendance. Coffee and refreshments begin at 9:30pm. Admission: Free (Catered lunch tickets are $15 – served at noon in the Courtyard)

Family Science Olympics

Medicine Hat High School, Taylor Science Wing
10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Praxis, the science and technology hotline, invites all MHC families to participate in a variety of fun and interesting science activities, including laser demonstrations by guest scientist from University of Alberta, draws and prizes. The cost is free but in order to participate, each family must have at least one person over 18.
Seasonal Influenza Clinic
Tuesday, Oct. 25
Upper Cafeteria 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
All staff and students are encouraged to attend the seasonal influenza immunization clinic on October 25. Please remember to bring your Alberta Health Card with you. If you are a student from outside Alberta, bring your health care card with you, also.
Innovate @ MHC

This research symposium will be an opportunity to learn about scholarship, research and innovation. We’ll offer a series of information sessions and showcase the work already being done at MHC. More details will be available in the coming weeks. Should you need more information right away, contact Alisha Chesal, Innovate @ MHC coordinator at step_business@mhc.ab.ca.
Fall Career Fair

10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Over 50 organizations are already registered to attend the Fall Career Fair so mark the date on your calendar. From service providers, employement agencies, industry associations and post-secondary institutions, they are here to give guidance and advice to job seekers.
Once again, a prize draw will be held for faculty who bring their students to the event and network with recruiters. More information about the exhibitors will be sent to program coordinators a couple weeks before the event so please share this information with any interested students.
The career centre is still seeking student volunteers for the day to act as career fair ambassadors. All volunteers will receive a t-shirt, lunch voucher and a certificate for their portfolio. There is also a special draw for volunteers who help out that day. If you are interested, contact Shelly at 2208.
