Telling It Like It Isn't: How Media and Professionals Hide Violence and Blame Victims

Dr. Allan Wade is pleased to provide a free session for teachers, parents and any interested individuals.
Car theft is not called 'vehicle sharing' and armed robbery is not a 'financial transaction.' Yet the media and professionals call sexualized assault 'sex' or 'intercourse' and wife-assault a 'domestic disturbance,' 'marital conflict,' or 'abusive relationship.' Dr. Allan Wade will show how these and similar terms conceal the facts in cases of violence, show examples from current news articles and legal judgments, and discuss how false descriptions influence official and public responses to violence.
The presentation will be suitable for those aged 16 and older. There will be time for questions and discussion. Registration is not required to attend this free session.
WHMIS Refresher Course

Chemistry Lab 1:30 p.m.
Ed Ough will be offering a two-hour WHMIS refresher course. All staff who handle or use chemicals as part of their tasks are encouraged to attend.
