Watch for the crane on campus Tuesday afternoon! We will be removing the HVAC equipment from the roof of G-Wing and it will affect traffic. The road from the North traffic circle to the drop-off zone at the main entrance will be blocked to allow a large crane to set up.

Introducing Marie Wanty, Human Rights Advisor
Staff and students seeking information of human rights, workplace harassment or similar issues can turn to Marie Wanty who was recently contracted to provide this service.
Marie is familiar with the college, has the requisite skills, and offers experience with our environment having provided personal counselling services at our Brooks campus.
Providing human rights support in this manner is a shift for the college. Until recently, human rights advising was shared between two staff members who provided the service in addition to teaching or administrative duties. Richard Gregory and Glenda Staples have provided excellent service and commitment and are warmly thanked for their work over the past few years.

MHC Receives $1.2 million for Vis Comm Expansion
MHC is excited to announce today a $1.2 million grant for the Visual Communications program from the government of Alberta.
The Advanced Education and Technology funds will go toward an expansion of the Medicine Hat Cultural Centre, where the program hopes to move its classrooms to in 2013. The expansion project is expected to cost $6.4 million.
“Our plan is to add on and renovate our allotted space in the Cultural Centre for Visual Communications classrooms and studios.” said Dr. Ralph Weeks, president of MHC.
The Bachelor of Applied Arts (Visual Communications) program is one of MHC’s most popular programs, with approximately 175 students last year. Additionally, the Visual Communications program is known to be one of the top in Alberta.
Rebeca Rothfus Wins July Project 50/50
Congratulations to Rebeca Rothfus, administrative assistant with the Students' Association. Rebeca is the July winner of Project 50/50, winning $265. The other $265 benefits the Students' Greatest Needs Scholarship.
"When I first heard about project 50/50 I thought, what a great project; a fun way to give back to the college community by helping students in need. It is a great feeling knowing that my monthly contribution is going to make a difference to someone in need. What perfect timing, I am going to use the winnings for our trip to Montana at the end of the month," said Rebeca.
In just four months, Project 50/50 has raised more than $1,000 for the scholarship. Stop by College Advancement and drop of your $10. You can also fill out a pledge form at Human Resources for automatic payroll deductions and that will make you eligible for the May draw.

POW-E Coordinator Now First Class
Congratulations to Jody MacKenzie, Power Engineering program coordinator. She joins an elite group of first-class power engineers. In fact, she is one of only five in Alberta under the age of 35 to hold the certification. Passing a series of eight government exams is no easy task.
Always ready for a challenge, Jody is now eyeing up a masters degree. "I'm really motivated by learning," she said. "I have nothing to study!"
Jody, an alumna of MHC, sets herself a personal goal of being an enthusiastic, passionate instructor who uses group activities, projects and the interactive POW-E lab to prepare her students.
Jody is one of three new additions to our 'People to be Proud of' display in Centennial Hall. Joining Jody are recent Skills Canada gold medal winner Jason Feyter, and Civic Recognition Award winner Laara Cassels. If you have someone you would like to nominate for this display, click here.

The One Book One Community Committee is pleased to announce the 2011 book selection is Come, Thou Tortoise by Jessica Grant.

First Aid Training
Itching to apply a splint? Like to learn how to bring someone back to life with an AED? The college provides first aid training free of charge to all interested employees. A class date will be announced when we have enough interested staff. Please contact Rodger Sloan or Janice Kirchner to register.
If you are already first aid trained, contact Rodger at 8439 so your HR file can be updated.
Smoking Areas
This is a reminder that as per the Alberta Tobacco Reduction Act, there is no smoking allowed in any campus facility or within 5 meters of any entrance. Fines for violations of the act start at $287. To assist our grounds staff in keeping our campus beautiful, please use one of the designated smoking areas. A map of these areas can be found here.
