College Day

College Day kicks off the 2011-12 academic year. The keynote speaker for this year will be Linda Edgecombe. Linda is an internationally renowned, award-winning humorous speaker, trainer and consultant. She is a best-selling author who energizes every room as she leads people to loosen up, lighten the load and laugh. Linda will be leading MHC through an educational, hands-on and highly humorous ride that will refocus, reenergize and reinvent how we see our lives and work.

Wikipedia has just turned ten. Come explore its past, present, and future with our panel.

Invited Guest: Sarah Polkinghorne, Public Services Librarian, University of Alberta
Other Panelists: Terry Chapman (Arts), Lorne Jeal (Business), Jesse Malinsky (Library), and Avril Torrence (Arts)

Our guest speaker will answer some foundational questions:
  • What is Wikipedia really?
  • Who created it and who uses it?
  • How does it work exactly?
  • Where is it headed?
The panel/ participants will further explore issues such as:

  • Potential classroom uses for Wikipedia
  • The changing face of “peer” reviewers
  • Individual versus collaborative intellectual property
  • Critical thinking in the so-called Information Age of Web 2.0
  • Quality research and non-print literacy
  • Writing for Wikipedia as scholarly activity  
This event is co-sponsored by the Faculty Professional Development Committee, the Vera Bracken Library, and the Division of Arts. Light refreshments will follow. Everyone is invited to attend.



Shake Rattler N' Roll
September 16 and 17

MHC's annual homecoming celebration will take place September 16 to 17. Friday night, our alumni are invited back on campus for our Alumni Cabaret featuring and on Saturday everyone is welcome to bring the whole family on campus for a fantastic day of free events - The ATB Family Fun Zone, Rattlers Men's and Women's soccer, fireworks and of course -- musical acts to keep you grooving all evening! We're thrilled to announce that this year's headliner act will be Canadian hit makers Bedouin Soundclash!
