Peter Wallis Project 50/50 Winner in June
Congratulations to Peter Wallis, the June winner of Project 50/50. Peter won $255 and the other $255 is going into the Students' Greatest Needs Scholarship.
"50/50 supports student scholarships and what could be better than that? Financial support to a deserving student is the best way I can think of to say that we believe in what we do and care enough to help make it possible by financial donations. I never expected to win anything but every once in a while you get lucky," said Wallis.
Stop by College Advancement and drop off your $10. You can also fill out a pledge form at Human Resources for automatic payroll deductions that will make you eligible for the July draw.

Jason Feyter Places First at National Skills Competition
Second-year plumbing student Jason Feyter placed first at the Skills Canada Competition in Quebec City this past weekend. He is the first MHC trades student to win gold at the national level.
Jason won a place at nationals by placing first at the 19th Annual Provincial Skills Canada Competition May 12 and 13 in Edmonton. Feyter beat out six other competitors from post-secondary institutions across the province for the chance to represent Alberta.
“We are extremely proud of his accomplishments,” said Danny Wilson, coordinator for the Plumbing/Gasfitting programs. “It’s not very often a small institute produces this type of quality.”
The World Skills Competition is held every two years so Jason didn't qualify for this year's event in London. He will be eligible next year to compete again and if he is successful at nationals, he will represent Canada at the Leipzig, Germany competition in 2013.
Feyter is halfway through his second year of plumbing classes with the Department of Trades at Medicine Hat College. He works for DMT Mechanical in Lethbridge and will soon be taking his exam to become a third-year apprentice.

Faculty Residence Awards
The Office of the Vice-President, Academic, together with Deans’ Council, is pleased to announce the creation of up to seven faculty residencies for the 2011-12 academic year that celebrate and acknowledge teaching innovation and scholarship as hallmarks of our core activity at Medicine Hat College.
Applicants will be required to submit project proposals that lead to the enhancement of teaching and learning supports at the college. A committee of faculty peers representing each academic division will review applications and make recommendations to the Vice-President, Academic based on: 1. Intent of proposal to contribute to scope and mandate of teaching/learning excellence at MHC; 2. Merit of the application (relevance, clarity of presentation); 3. Plan for implementation (timeline and detailed list of all resources required for project completion), indicating achievability of proposed project within a 4-6 month period.
All Medicine Hat College faculty members are eligible to apply. Deadline for all 2011-12 applications is June 30, 2011, at 4 p.m. Proposal may be submitted in hard copy or by e-mail (Word) to: Randee Cheverie, Executive Assistant to the VP Academic, Medicine Hat College.

Renovations and Construction On Campus
Renovations and improvements to the gym, adjoining rooms, hallway and stair areas as well as the weight room, upstairs hallway and offices in “G” wing will begin after convocation (June 6th) and will be on going throughout the summer. Due to the this construction there will be limited use and access to the men’s and women’s change rooms and showers downstairs. It is suggested that you remove any items from your locker that are used on a daily, continual or regular basis.
Change rooms and showers are available in the “T” or trade wing of the college.
The weight room will be relocated to the Poundmaker room for the period of the construction in the “G” wing area. No date for the move has been finalized.

Postal Strike Plan
The rolling postal strike could affect the way we conduct business at MHC. Therefore, please hold on to all items you wish to be mailed. Please do not take these items to the mail room as they will not be sent out.

Midsummer Night's Eve Golf Tournament
All Medicine Hat College staff are invited to the Midsummer Night’s Eve Golf Tournament sponsored by the Faculty Association Social Committee. It will be held on Tuesday, June 21 at the Paradise Valley Par 3 Golf Course, with the tee off beginning at 1 p.m., and supper at 5:30.
Please enter your team of five, or we can include you on one. The cost is $50 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf and supper. If you wish to attend the supper only the cost will be $25.
