Morning Ceremony: 10:00 a.m.

Afternoon Ceremony: 2:00 p.m.
(Business/Health Studies)
Join us in celebrating the achievements of our students, faculty and staff at our Alumni Tea following each ceremony. If you cannot attend the ceremonies, please consider joining your colleagues in applauding our 2011 graduates as they begin the Grand March. All staff are encouraged to gather outside of the
Bookstore at 9:55 a.m. for the morning ceremony and 1:55 p.m. for the afternoon ceremony.
If you are interested in volunteering during one or both ceremonies as a greeter, usher, or student marshall, watch for the call for volunteers in May!
Ratter Run Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are required for the 31st annual Rattler Run on Saturday April 30. The time commitment is from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Volunteer Positions include:
- Hydrating participants (i.e. water stations)
- Telling participants where to go! (i.e. Course Marshalls)
- Cheering on finishers (i.e. finish line helpers)
- Riding on the heels of participants (i.e. cyclists on the course)
Dr. Marla Middleton Freitag Wins Innovation Award
Congratulations to Dr. Marla Middleton Freitag for winning the 2011 ACIFA Innovation in Teaching Award. This prestigious award is presented annually to faculty in recognition of their creative and innovative teaching methods.
Dr. Middleton Freitag’s use of digital imagery themed, “Project Possible” was selected by the Alberta Colleges and Institutes Faculties Association Professional Affairs Innovation Award Review Committee. Medicine Hat College proudly boasts of receiving this award for the second consecutive year, following Glen Allan’s 2010 award.
Notice About Lockers
Please be aware that you do not need to notify Sports and Wellness staff when vacating your locker at any time if you are staying for spring/summer.
If you are back for the fall semester, please re-register your locker during the first week of September. Locks that are not registered with Sports and Wellness will be cut of in September.
MHC Open House in Brooks a Success

Project 50/50 Announces First Winner
Stop by College Advancement and drop of your $10. You can also fill out a pledge form at Human Resources for automatic payroll deductions and that will make you eligible for the May draw.

Dr. Biem Accepting New Patients
Please be advised Dr. Hank Biem is opening a family practice in Medicine Hat on April 18 at the Southridge Professional Centre. He is now accepting new patients. Phone 403-580-3888. Please share this information with students or MHC staff/faculty looking for a family physician.

April is daffodil month for the Canadian Cancer Society. Daffodil pins can be purchased for a donation from a box located on the Information Desk in the library.

Staff Offices on the Move
Facility Operations is now in F172 (off of the old Crowfoot room hallway). This includes Tom Teare, Greg Bechtold, Gayle Lemire, Carol Thompson.
Rodger Sloan, EHS is now located in F168, also off of the Old Crowfoot room hallway. Security will stay where they are by Crave.
Kim Cocks, Room Bookings and Lynn Laurendeau, Student Information Systems are in F162 (on the new Crowfoot room hallway).

NISOD Innovation Abstract: Roll Call for Learning
In “Roll Call for Learning," Gretchen Aggertt Weber, Professor of Speech, at Horry-Georgetown Technical College (SC), describes a successful strategy for getting students more involved in preparing class assignments and reducing stress. Roll call can be an instructional tool that makes the most of class time typically spent on a required administrative chore.
In “Assessing Student Learning: Some Simple Classroom Methods,” Jim Kaufman, Adjunct Instructor of Sociology, at Hutchinson Community College (KS), describes a successful strategy for getting students to write and for identifying how much learning is going on each day in class. Reaction papers can be adapted to all classroom types.
