Matt Read, Manager of Financial Services, has a few extra bucks in his pocket thanks to Project 50/50. As the first ever winner for the month of April, Matt takes home $245, half of the $490 pot. The other $245 will go into the Students’ Greatest Need Scholarship.
"Project 50/50 is a fun way for me to give back to the MHC community and help support future students. The prize is nice, but the opportunity to give back in an unique way is the main goal,” said Matt.
Stop by College Advancement and drop of your $10. You can also fill out a pledge form at Human Resources for automatic payroll deductions and that will make you eligible for the May draw.

Instructor/Student of the Year
It's that time of year again to nominate deserving individuals for Instructor of the Year and Student of the Year. Nomination forms and eligibility criteria are available on the MHC website. The nomination deadline is April 5.
Book Buyback at The MHC Bookstore
Once again it is time for Book Buyback. Instructors are encouraged to remind their students of the following dates and times:

Japan Fundraising Initiatives
Since the news of the earthquake and tsunami reached Medicine Hat College, students and staff have worked hard to raise money for the Canadian Red Cross. Through popcorn sales alone, more than $1,600 have been raised, with all proceeds being donated to Red Cross from the Medicine Hat Campus.
Tim Hortons has generously donated a coffee machine and gift basket ($250 value) to be raffled off in support of the Japan Earthquake Relief fundraiser. Tickets can be purchased until noon on April 8 at the Student Employment and Career Centre office (located in the Student Services area). Tickets are $2 each or 3/$5. All of the proceeds will go to the Red Cross in support of their relief efforts in Japan. Draw will be made at 12:15 p.m. on April 8.
We would like to thank Tim Hortons for their generous donation and support for this initiative.
At the Brooks Campus, Michiko Nishimura, a second-year Practical Nursing
student, sold handmade origami cranes to raise money for the Red Cross. The cranes represent prayers and symbolize Michiko's connectedness with her homeland. With the help of her fellow PN students, Michiko was able to raise $212 for the relief efforts in Japan.

GEEKAPALOOZA 2011: Call for Presenters
The Geekapalooza Planning Committee is looking for technology enthused educators to present during our 4th annual event on August 25, the day after College Day. This annual professional development event brings together educators and technology by sharing ideas and discussing new trends and techniques.
If you have taken a different approach in integrating technology or have developed strategies in utilizing other technical tools, why not share your ideas with your peers? Notice to Frequent Flyers: Changes Made to YYC Access
For MHC staff who make frequent trips to the Calgary International Airport, Barlow Trail between 48 Avenue and Airport Road NE and McCall Way North of 78 Avenue NE will permanently close Sunday, April 3 to allow for construction of a new runway and international concourse.
When the portion of Barlow Trail and McCall Way is closed, it will take some time for traffic patterns to re-establish. During this period minor delays are expected, please allow for extra time when travelling to Calgary International Airport. View the map here.
"Rip Off" Grad Show Showcases Vis Comm Work
Graduating students from the Visual Communications program will be showcasing their work from April 8-17 in Centennial Hall.
The show, titled Rip Off, will open the night of April 9, 2011 at 7:00 PM. Students will be on hand to showcase their portfolios and work and will be available for questions and comments.

Recycling Reminders
Did you know that the College recycles more than just paper products and returnables? In our efforts to reduce the volume of garbage heading to the landfill we also recycle wood, metal, printer cartridges, batteries, and fluorescent bulbs. We do not currently take plastic but are looking at options for this when our new loading dock opens this summer. If you have a waste stream in your workspace that you would like to reduce contact Rodger for options rsloan@mhc.ab.ca.
The Saamis Rotary Club will be holding its annual electronics recycling drive this spring. The College will host a collection site and will accept any small appliances, TVs, stereos, computers, etc. at the security office (F128). No large appliances like fridges or stoves please.
Did you know that the City of Medicine Hat will take your e-waste? Drop off is free at the city landfill.
