Holiday Music Performances
Starting Nov. 29
Noon - 1p.m., Centennial Hall
Bring your lunch to Centennial Hall this week and enjoy musical performances from Conservatory instructors. While you're there, show your support for the Conservatory of Music & Dance by purchasing raffle tickets for two great prize packages:
- The “Holiday Magic” raffle includes airfare and condo accommodations for one week in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico (2 people, $5,500 value). Tickets are 1/$20 or 3/$40.
- The “Arts & Eats” raffle is for 4 major shows at the Esplanade, 1 hour of private lessons at the Conservatory for 35 weeks and 4 dinners for 2 at Local Public Eatery ($2,000 value). Tickets are 1/$10 or 3/$25.
Favourite Book Tree
Drop in to see the “favourite book” Christmas tree in the library. For the past six years the library staff have invited faculty, staff, administration, and students to identify their favorite books so that they may be used to decorate the tree. For just a $2.00 donation per title (funds going to the Santa Claus Fund), a small facsimile of the book cover is hung on the tree with the person’s name on the back of the cover. It is fun to see the variety of titles that have been submitted – so come and join in or just come to see what others are reading.
Space Available in Residence
Residence will have bed spaces open for the2011 Winter Semester, 2011. Due to the number of beds available, MHC will be able to accommodate local students interested in living in student housing. Please share this message with students who might be interested in living on campus.
Help Business Students Give Back to the Community
The Business Administration Students and College Chamber of Commerce groups at MHC have joined forces this year to become the BAS Chamber of Commerce. As part of their efforts to help the community, they will be sponsoring a family in need this holiday season by providing them with food, gifts and a Christmas tree.
Additionally, these students will also be organizing 30 backpacks for homeless individuals and distributing them through the Salvation Army. These backpacks will contain necessities such as soap, toothbrush/toothpaste, deodorant, socks, gloves, and various other personal items. Shelly Drefs will be putting together informational packages about what the Medicine Hat College has to offer in regards to education and funding which will also be placed in the backpacks.
To make their efforts a success, the BAS Chamber of Commerce is seeking support from MHC faculty and staff to supplement donations from local citizens and businesses. Due to the goal of making each backpack uniformly equipped with supplies, monetary donations are preferable; however, if an individual or group would like to donate items rather than money they are welcome to do so. Automotive Tune-Up Sessions
A new automotive tune-up will start in January 2011. During this session, apprenticeship students will perform general tune-up work, check engine lights, test and/or repair starting and charging systems, and diagnose electical problems.
This service is open to all staff on campus including their families. If you are interested in having work done on your vehicle, please fill out a service request form and return to Ray Shannon or the Trades Department. Once your work order is received, someone will contact you with a booking time.
Christmas Tree Decorating Contest
Christmas is just around the corner and the Campus Life Events Committee would like to get that festive spirit started on campus with a Christmas Tree contest. Judging will coincide with the last day of classes on December 3 so if your area thinks they have the best decorated Christmas tree, please email Shelly Drefs by 12:00 noon on December 2 and let her know that you would like the judges to visit your area on December 3. The winning area will receive a DQ Ice Cream Cake and the highly coveted engraved tree ornament. The ornament will remain on the winning area’s tree until the 23 of December and then will be returned to the Campus Life Events Committee to pass on to subsequent winners in the years to come.
