The Medicine Hat College Policies and Procedures are now available on Sharepoint.
This site is divided into three sections:
- Governance Policies
- Operational Policies
- Organizational Information
Hard copies of policies will no longer be distributed to the policy binder holders. If you would like to keep your policy binder please print off new and updated policies from Sharepoint when you are alerted. If your division no longer wants to keep your policy binder please return it to Chelsey Lybbert in the President's Office.

Tips for New Student Orientation 2010
“To Set the Stage for Student Success” at this year's New Student Orientation on Wednesday, the Ad Hoc Orientation Committee recommends the following strategies:
- Use the Right Start student manuals as they are still available. Program Coordinators have been provided with a copy of the Right Start instructor manual for ideas.
- Focus on building relationships.
- Avoid overloading students with information and course outlines.
- Affirm their choice of program and MHC.
- Senior Administration will be greeting students at lunch rather than coming to individual program orientations.
- Distribute the Student Orientation Survey (included in the orientation materials provided by Student Services) to students as has been done in the past. The survey results are important to the committee’s work.
- Experiment with any ideas that you have wanted to try. The committee is interested in your experiences and will seek your input and suggestions with a survey that will be circulated to coordinators and faculty in early fall.
College Drive Construction
Please be advised that College Drive will be under construction starting this week with an expected completion date in November. During this time period the road over the causeway will be closed to pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle traffic. Additional information is available on the City of Medicine Hat website at http://www.medicinehat.ca/.
Geekapalooza a Success
Geekapalooza is over for another year, but what an event it was! In its third year, there were more participants than ever before with over 60 people taking part in the different sessions throughout the day. There were also a few presenters from departments new to the Geekapalooza event including College Advancement and Student Services. The event was so successful, and there are plans for encore presentations in the near future including a replay of the Geekapalooza movie: “How Students Use Technology to Cheat”!
Educational Technology Services would like to thank all of those who attended sessions, as well as the presenters for sharing their expertise and volunteering their time during these busy moments before the Fall semester. Congratulations to our door prize winners Ben Moffat, Tammy Jamieson, Shelley Beck, Leigh Cunningham, and Jody MacKenzie!

Lockers Now Open
The lockers located downstairs in the G Wing are now open for weight room and recreational users. Once you have put your lock on a locker, please register the number with weight room staff. Towel service is also available for $10/semester or $20/year through the weight room.

Continuing Studies Weekly Class Feature: Art Fun & ABC’s
Learn about Perky Penguin, Hula Hippo, and more ABC friends, through language, music, movement, and visual art. Art projects will reinforce the learning of the alphabet friends, though colour, perspective, composition, classification, texture, and much more. Basic techniques of drawing, sculpture, and printmaking will be utilized. The Alphabet Activities will provide the structure, then creativity and interpretation of the Alberta Program of Studies Art curriculum for level 1. The focus will be on language based academic learning through the art curriculum. Students must be born before/in December 2005

Please note the new number to call for 24h security on campus is 529-3911.
The previous number -529-3922- will access the security administration office.
The hours of the main campus are Monday – Saturday 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sundays 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Cultural Centre hours are Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturdays 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Computers for Sale
Towers and monitors are available for sale at a price of $40/each. 80GB Internal Hard Drives can be purchased for $5. View items outside the security office and contact Rodger Sloan to purchase.
New Arrivals! 15 Apple G5 computers (towers only). Specifications: 2 GHz Clock speed, 2 Gb RAM, 160 Gb HD, 128 Mb Video Card. Due to the popularity of these units, they will be available only at noon August 30th at the security office F140, first come first serve. Cost is $300 per unit. One unit per person.
